Jontavious Thomas, a 29-year-old resident of Lehigh Acres, Florida, was tragically shot and killed on January 30, 2017. The incident occurred early in the morning, shortly after 5 a.m., as Thomas was leaving his home on Adeline Avenue to go to work. He was employed as a construction equipment transporter with Southern Gulf Equipment. As he stepped out of his front door, he was met with gunfire from an unknown assailant or assailants.
Despite the immediate response from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Thomas's murder revealed a suspect description: a black male, approximately 5'9" to 5'11" with a thin build, wearing a black hoodie and black pants. Despite this information, the case remains unsolved. In an effort to find the perpetrator, a reward for information leading to an arrest was initially set at $10,000, which was later matched by Thomas's former employer and increased by family members and an anonymous donor, bringing the total reward to $26,000.
The murder of Jontavious Thomas is one of several unsolved homicides in Southwest Florida from 2017 to 2020. The Lee County Sheriff's Office continues to seek information from the public to solve this case.
