Jeffrey Lott, a 45-year-old man from Spring Hill, FL, was tragically murdered on August 4, 2016. His body was discovered in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express located at 3528 Commercial Way. Lott had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and appeared to have been robbed. The investigation revealed that Lott, who was a construction worker traveling from Georgia to the Tampa Bay area for work, had met Kayla Breann Evelyn Lucille Collins, a 23-year-old woman, at a strip club in Hudson on the
night of his death. After spending time together at a bar and a Denny's restaurant, Lott asked Collins to drive him back to his motel as he felt unfit to drive due to alcohol consumption.
Collins was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, armed robbery, and grand theft auto in connection with Lott's death. She allegedly took Lott's truck and left it outside a foreclosed home in Spring Hill, where some of Lott's belongings were also found. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office led the investigation, which concluded that Collins had robbed and murdered Lott before abandoning his vehicle.
The case against Collins proceeded through the legal system, with her facing serious charges for her involvement in the crime.
