Sean Archilles, a 14-year-old boy from Fort Myers, Florida, tragically lost his life on July 25, 2016, in a shooting outside Club Blu. The incident occurred during a teen night event at the club, where revelers were leaving around 12:30 a.m. Sean was one of two teenagers killed in the shooting, the other being 18-year-old Stef'an Strawder, a promising basketball player. The shooting also left 17 others injured.
Sean's father, Jean Robert Archilles, expressed his disbelief and sorrow upon hearing the news of his son's death, highlighting Sean's love for sports and his outgoing personality.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it was part of a larger gang-related conflict that had been ongoing for a year. Despite this, there was no indication that either Sean or Stef'an were involved in any gang activities. The shooting drew significant media attention, partly because it occurred just five weeks after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. Authorities detained several persons of interest shortly after the incident, and the case saw multiple arrests and legal proceedings over the following years.
In May 2022, Kierra Kashayla Russ, a 24-year-old woman, was convicted for her involvement in the shooting. She was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime. Russ was the first of five individuals charged in connection with the shooting to be convicted. The other suspects, Demetrius O'Neal, Derrick Leon Church, Tajze Akiir Battle, and Dontrill Loggins, were still awaiting trial at that time. The legal proceedings highlighted the tragic consequences of gang violence and the impact it had on the Fort Myers community, particularly on the families of the young victims.
