Jamorris Gitt Milton, a 33-year-old Black male, was tragically shot and killed on January 23, 2016, in Belle Glade, Florida. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Southwest Fifth Street. According to reports, Milton was involved in an altercation with Horace Gordon on the evening of his death. The confrontation escalated, leading Gordon to fatally shoot Milton.
Authorities quickly identified Gordon as the suspect and arrested him on a murder charge just days after the incident.
The investigation revealed that Gordon and Milton had been feuding for about a week prior to the shooting. On the night of the murder, the two men fought in the parking lot of a convenience store on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Witnesses reported that Gordon fired his 9mm handgun multiple times, striking Milton and continuing to shoot even after Milton fell to the ground. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office conducted a thorough investigation, leading to Gordon's arrest and subsequent charges.
In June 2022, more than six years after the murder, a jury found Horace Gordon guilty of first-degree murder. Circuit Court Judge Howard Coates sentenced Gordon to life in prison immediately following the jury's verdict. Additionally, Gordon was found guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, for which he received a 10-year sentence to be served concurrently with his life sentence. The court proceedings highlighted the violent nature of the crime and the impact it had on the community.
Milton's death was one of 87 homicides in Palm Beach County in 2016. The case drew significant attention due to the brutal manner in which the murder was carried out and the swift justice that followed. The sentencing of Horace Gordon brought some closure to the community and underscored the seriousness with which the judicial system treated the case.
