Rayshaan Berry, a 28-year-old resident of Titusville, Florida, was found dead on June 1, 2015, along the side of State Road 50. His body was discovered by a motorist around 6:30 a.m., prompting an immediate investigation by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. Initial observations at the crime scene indicated that Berry had been shot, leading investigators to treat his death as a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Berry had not been killed in a traffic accident, and his body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
The investigation into Berry's death quickly led to significant developments. Four individuals were arrested in connection with the murder: David Richardson, Lauren Hudgens, Sir Aljenon Ingram, and Kendrick Kitchen, all from Titusville. According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Hudgens had lured Berry to a local motel under the pretense of engaging in prostitution. Upon arrival, Berry was ambushed by the group, who intended to rob him. Berry's refusal to comply with the robbery led to an altercation during which he was shot. His body was then transported and dumped on the side of State Road 50.
The legal proceedings following the arrests were extensive. Kendrick Kitchen was found guilty of Felony First Degree Murder and Discharging a Firearm Causing Death during a Robbery with a Firearm. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for each count. David Richardson pled guilty to Second Degree Murder and Robbery with a Firearm, receiving a 40-year prison sentence. Lauren Hudgens also pled guilty to Second Degree Murder and Robbery with a Firearm and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Sir Aljenon Ingram pled guilty to Manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The case highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, and the community in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
