Wilson Alexis, a 21-year-old resident of North Miami Beach, Florida, tragically lost his life on January 5, 2014. The incident occurred during a baptism party for a five-month-old child, held at a residence on NE 15 Avenue. The party, which was initially a joyous occasion, turned deadly when a group of uninvited guests arrived after the event was publicized on social media. An argument erupted between one of the uninvited guests and a kitchen helper over the lack of utensils and food.
As tensions escalated, the homeowner decided to shut down the party and asked everyone to leave.
Wilson Alexis, who was known for his good nature and lack of trouble with the law, attempted to intervene and break up the fight. Unfortunately, the situation spiraled out of control, and two shots were fired. One of the bullets struck Wilson, who was subsequently rushed to Ryder Trauma Center. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The North Miami Beach Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation into the shooting.
In the aftermath of the incident, police identified and arrested 26-year-old Louis Kenson Avril as the primary suspect. Avril was charged with first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, first-degree attempted premeditated murder with a firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm. The arrest brought some measure of relief to Wilson's grieving family, who had been vocal about their desire for justice.
