Deputy Sheriff Samuel George Wynne, a 47-year-old white male, was tragically killed on August 18, 1916, in Gainesville, Florida. Wynne was serving as a deputy sheriff for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and was also a constable for District 6 in Newberry. On the day of his death, Deputy Wynne was attempting to serve an arrest warrant for the theft of hogs. During the process, he woke the suspect and began searching the room for weapons.
