On the evening of May 31, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the parking lot of the Fairburn Gordon Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. When the chaos subsided, 46-year-old Michael Gary, a Black male, was found dead, the victim of a drive-by shooting. Another woman at the scene was also struck by a bullet in her ankle but survived her injuries. The preliminary investigation indicated that the shots were fired from a vehicle that quickly fled after the assault.
