In the early evening of December 28, 2020, a violent encounter unfolded on a stretch of U.S. Highway 1 in Emanuel County, Georgia. Twenty-one-year-old Dajarius Zashawn McGuire was a passenger in a car being driven by Daniqua S. Sanders. As they traveled south between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., another vehicle began to trail them.
