In the summer of 2017, the community of Valdosta, Georgia, was unsettled by the untimely death of 19-year-old Zachary Butler. A student at Valdosta State University, Butler was discovered in his apartment at The Gates complex on Baytree Road on the evening of July 12, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The initial call to authorities suggested a possible suicide, but investigators at the scene quickly found evidence indicating that foul play was involved.
