In the winter of 2015, a night of violence shattered the life of a family in a Forest Park, Georgia, apartment complex. On a Saturday evening in January, 33-year-old Florencia Gomez-Mendez, a carpenter and father of three, was walking back to his apartment with a friend when they were ambushed. The two were the victims of an armed robbery that would end in tragedy. During the attack, Gomez-Mendez was shot in the chest while his friend was struck in the back of the head and left unconscious.
