Olumuyiwa Adeniyi, a Nigerian man age 45, from Poplar Grove, Illinois, was shot on Monday, April 6, 2020, at a home along the 300 block of Cress Creek Trail.
Deputies and first responders were called in the afternoon; they found the 45 year old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported from the neighborhood to MercyHealth Hospital, where he died later that same day.
Investigators identified the victim as, Olumuyiwa Adeniyi age 45, the father of the man taken into custody at the scene.
According to authorities, 23 year old Adebayo Adeniyi was arrested immediately after the shooting, and first responding Officers had arrived on scene.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office case was initially referred to prosecutors as an aggravated battery with a firearm; the charge is a Class X felony.
He was booked into the Boone County Jail and held without bond as the investigation into the fatal shooting proceeded.
Local reporting noted that the incident unfolded in a quiet residential pocket off Cress Creek Trail, drawing squad cars and detectives as neighbors watched from porches and windows.
By the time the scene was secured and evidence markers dotted the pavement, 45 year old Olumuyiwa Adeniyi had been pronounced dead at the hospital and the suspect, his 23 year old son, was in custody for firing the shots that ultimately killed his father.
As of September 2025 there have been no further court proceeding updates other than the original charges given that night of aggravated battery with a firearm.
