Teyatta Holmes, a 19-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on November 3, 2017, in Harvey, Illinois. Holmes and a 22-year-old woman were sitting in a car on the 14800 block of Maplewood Avenue, conversing with two males, when one of the men opened fire on them. Holmes was shot in the head and was immediately taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 10:48 p.m. that night. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled her death a homicide.
