In the early hours of a late summer day in Boston, tragedy struck a young life. Deandre Townsend, a 20-year-old African-American male, was on Southern Avenue in the Dorchester neighborhood when violence erupted. At approximately 1:06 a.m. on August 31, 2012, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the night. When police arrived at the scene, they found Townsend suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
