Anthony Smiley, a 24-year-old African American male from Rockford, Illinois, tragically lost his life on February 2, 2014. Anthony was one of two individuals shot during an altercation that escalated into violence in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Ninth Street. The incident occurred early in the morning after a verbal dispute turned deadly. Anthony Smiley was pronounced dead at the scene, while another individual, Anthony A. Riggs, 25, was critically wounded in the same shooting.
