Elijah Emmanuel Meadows, a 19-year-old Black male, died on October 10, 2021, in Monroe, Louisiana, after a night at Charles Johnson Park that began like any other—work finished, a plan to unwind, and a few games of basketball before heading home. As the evening wore on, he and his cousin, Ja’Nidjiah, were still at the park with friends when they noticed a group nearby, the kind of presence you register and then try to ignore.
