In the early morning hours of August 30, 2021, the quiet of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, was broken by a grim discovery. The body of 42-year-old Nicole Ryree Hamilton, an African American woman from the neighboring city of Lafayette, was found outdoors on Mills Highway.
