On the evening of March 12, 2021, tragedy struck in Westwego, Louisiana, when 17-year-old Jaheim Shavers, a male student at L.W. Higgins High School, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Louisiana Street. Shavers was walking along the sidewalk with an 18-year-old companion when gunfire erupted.
