In the late hours of a Thursday night in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a dispute between acquaintances escalated into a fatal encounter. On March 11, 2021, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on Dobbertine Road following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival around 10:30 p.m., they found 40-year-old Derek J. Ogea suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his arm and chest. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
