In the quiet community of Duson, Louisiana, the life of 33-year-old Shanard Simmons, a Black male, was violently cut short on the evening of January 27, 2020. Simmons was fatally shot during what authorities described as a home invasion in the 300 block of Bopamo Lane. Another individual present at the residence at the time of the incident was fortunate to escape unharmed. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and initiated a homicide investigation into the tragic event.
