In the early evening of June 12, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm on Jackson Street in Shreveport, Louisiana, leaving a 34-year-old African American man, Derek White, fatally wounded. White was standing outside a residence at approximately 7:00 p.m. when a blue sedan passed by, and multiple shots were fired from the vehicle. He was struck multiple times in the upper body. Emergency services transported him to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
