On August 5, 2018, Malik Filer, a 17-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed in Saint-Martinville, Louisiana. Malik was taking out the trash at his aunt's house on North Vivier Street when he was approached and shot multiple times. Despite being transported to a nearby hospital, Malik succumbed to his injuries.
