In the early evening of December 4, 2017, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 7800 block of South Coronet Court in New Orleans. Responding to a call of shots fired, Seventh District officers arrived to find a grim scene. An unresponsive Black male, later identified as 30-year-old VaShawn Tate, was discovered lying in a driveway. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head and forearm.
