In the early morning hours of December 10, 2016, a sense of unease shattered the typical quiet of the Meadows Apartments in Crowley, Louisiana. Just after 12:30 a.m., deputies from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the complex located at 100 Kathy Meadows Drive, responding to a report of a shooting. There, they found 32-year-old Michael Winn, a male resident, who had been shot in the chest while standing outside his own apartment.
