On a January evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 28-year-old Kourtney Thomas was tragically cut short. On January 9, 2016, Thomas, an African American woman, was shot and killed in a vehicle in the 8600 block of Coy Avenue. Another woman in the vehicle was also wounded in the shooting but survived her injuries. The incident was the first homicide recorded in Baton Rouge in 2016.
