On June 1, 2015, Jacquez Deondra Young, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot in Gretna, Louisiana. A native of Gretna and a resident of Avondale, Young was a 2009 graduate of West Jefferson High School and had attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. He was the father of two children.
The investigation into his death led to the identification of Michael Brown as a participant in the murder. Brown, who was 24 years old at the time of his sentencing, pleaded guilty on February 22, 2017,
