Malcolm Lambert was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and discharging a firearm into occupied property. He entered an Alford plea, which means he did not admit guilt but acknowledged that there was enough evidence to convict him. As part of the plea agreement, the first-degree murder charge was dismissed, and Lambert was sentenced to serve between 18 and 23 years in prison.
