Kelcie Lynn Vann, a 24-year-old woman from Sanford, NC, tragically lost her life on August 14, 2017. She was born on May 13, 1993, in Lee County, NC, to Jason Len Vann and Liane Thomas Cochrane. Kelcie graduated from Lee Senior High School in 2011 and had recently completed dental assisting school. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and worked at Chick-fil-A in Aberdeen. Described as a free spirit and a ray of sunshine, Kelcie brought joy wherever she went.
Kelcie's death was part of a double homicide. She and her boyfriend, Bryant James Rosser, 27, were found shot in a car on Buffalo Lakes Road in Sanford. The car, a grey Toyota Camry, had multiple bullet holes in the windshield and hood. The Harnett County Sheriff's Office determined that both victims sustained gunshot wounds and declared the deaths as a homicide.
Three suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kelcie and Bryant.
Gregory Recardo Fargas, 25, of Lillington, NC, Tracy Nicole Read, 33, of Sanford, NC, and Jadin Quincey Bailey, 20, of Lillington, NC, were taken into custody and held without bond. The investigation revealed that the suspects planned to rob the couple, believing they had stolen a backpack containing a firearm and drugs. The suspects allegedly set up a drug deal to lure Kelcie and Bryant to the ambush site.
The tragic loss of Kelcie Lynn Vann deeply affected her family and community. Her relatives described her as a wonderful, beautiful young woman who did not deserve such a fate. The case remains a painful reminder of the senseless violence that can shatter lives in an instant.
