On November 8, 2021, 21-year-old Abraha Ermias was fatally shot outside a Target store near Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio. Ermias, who was of Ethiopian descent, entered the store around 11:28 a.m. and made a purchase at the Starbucks inside. After exiting the store, he was approached by an unidentified man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray or tan long pants, who shot him at close range. The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala.
