Steven Michael "Steve" Smith, a 54-year-old Caucasian male, was a dedicated officer with the Columbus Division of Police, serving for 27 years. He was affectionately known as "Mike" to his family and friends. On April 10, 2016, during a SWAT operation to serve a felony arson warrant, Officer Smith was shot by the suspect, Lincoln Rutledge, while riding in the turret of an armored vehicle.
