On October 24, 2022, 18-year-old Omar Omizz McCord Jr., an African American male from Garfield, Pittsburgh, was tragically shot and killed in Highland Park. McCord, who had recently graduated from Pittsburgh Public Schools in May 2022, was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds in an alleyway at the intersection of Ionic and Millbrae Way. Neighbors reported hearing between six and eight gunshots around 11 p.m. the night before his body was discovered.
