On a warm spring evening in Philadelphia, the festive atmosphere of a Memorial Day weekend cookout turned to tragedy for the Parks family. Gerald 'Jerry' Parks, a 37-year-old Black male, was returning home with his 9-year-old son, Jamel Parks, on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Shortly after 10:30 p.m., as they sat in their blue 2019 Nissan Sentra on the 2100 block of Carver Street in the Wissinoming neighborhood, a hail of bullets shattered the night's peace.
