In the late winter of 2018, the life of a young woman, 23-year-old Kasandra Ortiz, was tragically cut short in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. On February 26th, her body was discovered near a dumpster on North Rock Street, the victim of a fatal shotgun wound to the head. The ensuing investigation quickly pointed to a local resident, Jose Colon, as the perpetrator of this violent act. It was revealed that before her death, Ortiz had also been physically beaten.
