Shannon Abdul-Rahim, 29, a Black/African American man, was killed on the evening of January 4, 2017, in West Philadelphia. Police and later federal authorities tied the killing to the 5800 block of West Thompson Street, in the area of Carroll Park, only a short distance from where Abdul-Rahim lived. Online memorial and news accounts identified him as one of the people lost to gun violence in Philadelphia that day.
