On January 11, 2022, Brandon Murrell, a 31-year-old man from Knoxville, Tennessee, was found shot outside a residence in the 500 block of Fern Street. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center but was later pronounced dead. The Knoxville Police Department identified Murrell as the victim and launched an investigation into the incident.
