In the summer of 2017, a dispute on a quiet street in Cookeville, Tennessee, escalated to a fatal encounter, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. On the afternoon of August 3, 2017, police received a call about a man bleeding in the street on Scenic Drive. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the body of 40-year-old Randy D. Kendall. He had been fatally shot.
Investigators determined that Kendall, a resident of nearby Buffalo Valley, had been involved in an argument with another man, identified as 28-year-old Ricky Nathaniel Murphy. The verbal confrontation turned into a physical altercation. Following the fight, Murphy allegedly went to his home, retrieved a long gun, and returned to the scene where he shot and killed Kendall.
