In the summer of 2016, the life of 47-year-old Cary Leon Smith was cut short in a fatal shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. On the evening of Thursday, August 4, 2016, police responded to a call shortly before 8 p.m. in the 6000 block of Highland Avenue. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered Smith lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
