Devin Lee Rash, a 20-year-old male from Conroe, Texas, tragically lost his life on February 12, 2020. Devin was known for his adventurous spirit and his close-knit relationships with family and friends. He was living in Conroe with his long-time girlfriend, Frankee Boyd, at the time of his death. Devin's untimely demise occurred during a marijuana deal gone wrong at the River Bend Station shopping center parking lot on the 11000 block of Interstate 45 South near Crighton Road.
On the evening of February 12, 2020, Devin Lee Rash and Ryan Scott York, a 19-year-old male from Conroe, were shot to death in a car parked at the shopping center. A third man, Bryce Smith, also in his 20s, was shot in the head but survived with a bullet lodged in his head. The perpetrator, Waymon Nicholas Jordan Jr., a 22-year-old male from Willis, Texas, was convicted of capital murder for the killings. Jordan admitted to shooting the three men with his stepfather's .22 caliber firearm during an interrogation by Conroe Police. He claimed that he acted in self-defense, stating that the victims had tried to rob him. However, the prosecution argued that the shootings were premeditated and motivated by Jordan's desire to rob the victims of a large quantity of marijuana to impress his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.
The trial for Waymon Nicholas Jordan Jr. took place in the 435th District Court, presided over by Judge Patty Magginis. After less than two hours of deliberation, the jury found Jordan guilty of capital murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The prosecution described the shootings as an execution, highlighting the exit wounds on one of the victims, which indicated that the gun had been fired at the back of the head. Jordan's plans to join the U.S. Air Force shortly after the shootings further suggested that he intended to disappear into anonymity after committing the crime.
The investigation into the incident revealed that the shooting occurred inside the victims' car, which was parked next to a company delivery truck at the shopping center. Surveillance footage from the scene was reviewed by Conroe Police, and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered. The surviving victim, Bryce Smith, called his girlfriend, who then dialed 911.
