Jose Hernandez, a 12-year-old Hispanic boy from Big Spring, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 12, 2017. The circumstances surrounding his death were both shocking and heartbreaking. They then brought the stolen firearms back to Howard County and picked up Jose, whom they knew, and drove to a house north of Big Spring. While unloading the guns, one of them accidentally discharged, and the bullet fragments punctured Jose's lung and heart. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Jose succumbed to his injuries.

Four individuals were implicated in the case: Christopher Yanez, 24, Cindy Machado Lopez, 20, Cody Alan Wingo, 28, and Kimberly Kay Carson, 31. Christopher Yanez, Cindy Lopez, and Cody Wingo were arrested and held in jail, while Kimberly Carson was apprehended later in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The charges against them varied, but they were all connected to the tragic incident that led to Jose's death.
Kimberly Carson faced additional charges related to firearms smuggling. She pleaded guilty to felony firearms smuggling and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Carson's involvement in the case extended beyond the accidental shooting, as she was also linked to a burglary in Mason County. The other suspects, Christopher Yanez, Cindy Lopez, and Cody Wingo, awaited trial on various charges related to the incident.
The case of Jose Hernandez's death highlighted the dangers of illegal activities and the tragic consequences that can arise from them.
