Roy Guerrero Cervantes, Jr., a 35-year-old Hispanic man from Big Spring, Texas, tragically died on March 6, 2015. Initially, it appeared that Cervantes was killed by being hit by a train at the intersection of FM 700 and Interstate 20. However, autopsy results later revealed that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds prior to being placed on the railroad tracks.
Following the discovery of the gunshot wounds, Big Spring Police issued an arrest warrant for Fabian Carpenter, a
28-year-old man, on charges of murder in connection with Cervantes' death. Carpenter was arrested without incident in Fort Worth on Sunday, March 8, 2015. The investigation indicated that Carpenter was responsible for shooting Cervantes multiple times before moving his body to the train tracks to make it appear as an accident.
