Trooper II Bobby Steve Booth, aged 27, was a dedicated officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Highway Patrol. On June 16, 1993, while responding to a disturbance call at a roadside park north of Stratford, TX, Trooper Booth encountered a man waving a gun. During the ensuing struggle, the suspect managed to gain control of Trooper Booth's service weapon and shot him multiple times. Tragically, Trooper Booth succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The suspect was promptly arrested and charged with the murder of Trooper Booth. In 1994, he was sentenced to life in prison for the crime.
Trooper Booth had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for six years and was survived by his wife and two young sons.
Trooper Booth's death was a significant loss to his family, colleagues, and the community. His dedication and sacrifice are remembered and honored by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the community of Stratford. A portion of U.S. Highway 287 was later designated in his honor to commemorate his service and sacrifice.
