Charles D. Maddux, a 30-year-old special policeman with the Corsicana Police Department in Texas, tragically lost his life on August 22, 1904. Maddux had only served with the department for five days before his untimely death. He was shot and killed by a man he had just arrested at the Union Depot. The suspect, wanted for rape and causing a disturbance, pulled out a pistol and opened fire on Maddux as he was walking him to jail.
