The body of 36-year-old Beranda Hunt had been found on May 17, 2007, in an alley in the 4500 block of Maffitt Avenue, less than a mile from where Evans was discovered. Like Evans, Hunt was found nude and had suffered beating injuries to her head. The proximity in time and location, along with the specific condition of the bodies, led investigators to explore the possibility that the two crimes were connected.
Despite the initial leads and the potential pattern identified by law enforcement, the investigation into Evans's death stalled. As of 2018, the case was classified as a cold case with no arrests made. The murder remains unsolved, and no suspects have been publicly identified or charged in connection with her death or the potentially related killing of Beranda Hunt. The silence surrounding the case has left it as one of many unsolved homicides from that period in the city's history.
