Tamika Blake Wilson was in the Opelousas area during July 1997, far from home and reportedly visiting from Baltimore, Maryland. She was a Black/African American female. Sometime during that visit, investigators later concluded she was raped and strangled, her life ending in a violence that did not announce itself with witnesses or a public scene, but with absence—until the land itself gave her back.
