In the spring of 2025, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 13-year-old Derron Woody, a male student from Decatur, Georgia. On the afternoon of Thursday, March 27, 2025, an after-school fight escalated to a fatal shooting in the 4800 block of Glenwood Road. Derron, a former student at DeKalb Alternative School and a seventh-grader at Bethune Middle School, was found on the front steps of a home with a gunshot wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m.
