Rene Diaz, a 42-year-old man from Lake Elsinore, was fatally shot on December 23, 2024, in the 2500 block of Spectacular Bid Street in Perris, California. Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon just before midnight and found Diaz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital for treatment, where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on December 29, 2024.
Following an
investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit, authorities identified a suspect in the case—a 17-year-old male from Perris. Initially, the whereabouts of the juvenile suspect were unknown, prompting law enforcement to issue a warrant for his arrest. On January 21, 2025, multiple search warrants were executed at various residences in Perris and the surrounding county area. The suspect was eventually located at a home in the 20500 block of Santa Rosa Mine Road and was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity due to his age. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit.
