In the late hours of a Saturday night in Camden, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire pierced the air, forever altering the lives of two families. On March 29, 2025, a ShotSpotter activation alerted Camden County Police to the 600 block of Elm Street at approximately 10:54 p.m. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a young man, 21-year-old Francisco Benavides of Pennsauken, suffering from gunshot wounds in the vicinity of the 600 block of North 5th Street.
