On the morning of January 12, 2025, Conroe Police Officers responded to a call regarding a possible suicide at a residence located in the 2900 block of Palominos Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Vonnie Clay Holcomb, a male, slumped over in the driver’s seat of a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Initial assessments led authorities to believe the incident was a suicide.
However, as the investigation progressed, new evidence emerged that contradicted this conclusion.
Video surveillance footage from a nearby residence revealed a male exiting the passenger side of the pickup truck and walking away from the scene. This discovery prompted investigators to reclassify the case as a homicide. Further inquiries led officers to identify 61-year-old Everton Edwards as a suspect in the case. Edwards and Holcomb were known to each other, though authorities have not yet established a motive for the killing.
Following the identification of Edwards as a suspect, an arrest warrant was obtained, and he was taken into custody without incident. The Conroe Police Department has extended condolences to Holcomb’s family during this difficult time. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have stated that no further details will be released at this time.
