Kayvon Dunbar, a 15-year-old Black male from Bradenton, was shot and killed late on August 25, 2025, after a planned robbery spiraled into gunfire on the 400 block of 11th Avenue East. Officers arrived around 11:30 p.m. to find him mortally wounded outside a home. Detectives say Dunbar and three others had lured a fifth person—a drug dealer—to the location; when the dealer spotted masked figures approaching with two guns, he fired in self-defense and one of the suspects returned fire, the
exchange of shots ending in Dunbar’s death.
In the weeks that followed, Bradenton police arrested three teenagers they say participated in the attempted robbery: Zyquan Kit, 17; Jeremiah Lilly, 18; and Star Stewart, 15. Each was charged with felony murder with a firearm because the killing occurred during the commission of an attempted armed robbery. Investigators say Kit first approached the car to distract the dealer while the others moved in; when the plan unraveled, shots were fired and Dunbar was struck. The State Attorney’s Office will determine whether the two juveniles are charged as adults.
