Shulfer, a 52-year-old White/Caucasian woman, was shot and killed on July 6, 2025, at the rural Portage County home she shared with her husband, Dale Shulfer, near Amherst Junction in the Town of New Hope. What began that Sunday evening as a request for deputies to conduct a welfare check quickly became the discovery of a double homicide.
